Bloomsbury Spark acquires first Australian novel

Bloomsbury Australia has acquired the first novel by an Australian to be published under its ebook-only Bloomsbury Spark imprint.

Vanessa Barnevald’s young adult novel This is Your Afterlife is the story of 16-year-old Keira Nolan who has ‘finally got what she wanted—the captain of the football team in her bedroom’. ‘Problem is, he’s not in the flesh. He’s a ghost and she’s the only one who can see him.’

A murder-mystery and love story, This is Your Afterlife is Sydney-based author Barnevald’s first novel and will be published on 21 October 2014. Bloomsbury has acquired world rights.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Bloomsbury launched its digital-first imprint for ‘young adult, teen and new adult fiction’, Bloomsbury Spark, last December.
