Bad S-x in Fiction Award 2015 shortlist announced

In the UK, the Literary Review has announced the shortlist for the 2015 Bad S-x in Fiction Award. The eight shortlisted titles are: Before, During, After (Richard Bausch, Atlantic); Book of Numbers (Joshua Cohen, Harvill Secker); Against Nature (Tomas Espedal, Seagull); Fates and Furies (Lauren Groff, William Heinemann); The Making of Zombie Wars (Aleksandar Hemon, Picador); Fear of Dying (Erica Jong, Canongate); List of the Lost (Morrissey, Penguin); and The Martini Shot (George Pelecanos, Orion). In a statement, the judges said Michael Ashcroft and Isabel Oakeshott’s unauthorised biography of David Cameron Call Me Dave (Biteback) was also considered for the prize due to its suggestion that the ‘future PM inserted a private part of his anatomy into the animal’s mouth’. ‘That assertion was so flimsily corroborated as to resemble fiction but, regrettably, the biographers displayed insufficient literary brio to merit serious consideration,’ the judges said. The prize, which was established in 1993 to ‘draw attention to poorly written, perfunctory or redundant passages of sexual description in modern fiction’, will be awarded on 1 December.
