Licensed café and bookshop opens on the Gold Coast

A new licensed café and bookshop has opened at the Paradise Island Resort on the Gold Coast.

REaD, which stands for Read, Eat and Drink, features a ‘fireside lounge area’ selling books by local authors, a communal dining table and board games. The venue will host book launches and performances by emerging writers and musicians.

Owner Vicki Kersey told the Gold Coast Bulletin she was ‘aiming for the aura of an eclectic vintage English drawing room complete with roaring fire, good books and games’.

‘I want it to be a creative hub for local authors and book clubs and local musos. It is a little hidden gem close to Surfers Paradise but away from the hustle and bustle.’

Kersey said the waterfront venue was formerly owned by federal MP Clive Palmer.
