Subscription service eMusic relaunches audiobook program, eStories

In the US, online music subscription service eMusic is relaunching and rebranding its audiobook service under the name eStories, reports Publishers Weekly. The service includes over 80,000 titles, and is pitched as a low-cost alternative to competitors, with the monthly subscription plan costing US$11.99 (A$15.84), compared to Audible, which starts at US$14.95 (A$19.75) per month. Titles from the big five publishing houses are included in the catalogue through an agreement with audiobook retailer Findaway. eMusic CEO Tamir Koch said the company has ‘wanted to get into the booming audiobook business for many years’, adding that the service has been created using feedback from ‘audiobook enthusiasts, publishers and industry insiders’. In 2015 eMusic was acquired by technology developer TriPlay.
