Inaugural Canberra Writers Festival program launched

The program for the inaugural Canberra Writers Festival, running from 26 to 28 August, has been announced.

Among the artists appearing at the festival are international guests the Man Booker Prize-winning Canadian novelist Yann Martel and award-winning Irish author Eimear McBride, who are both also guests of the Melbourne Writers Festival (MWF). As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the festival is a partner to MWF.

Local guests include Anne Summers, Sue Maslin, Bruce Pascoe, Nigel Featherstone, Kim Mahood and journalists and political commentators Sarah Ferguson, Karen Middleton and George Megalogenis.

They join previously announced guests including British philosopher A C Grayling, Stella Prize-winner Charlotte Wood, fantasy author Isobelle Carmody, political thriller authors Steve Lewis and Chris Uhlmann, and authors Nick Earls and Richard Glover.

Canberra-region authors to appear at the festival include Marion Halligan, Omar Musa, Merlinda Bobis, Laura Dawes, Robyn Cadwallader and Karen Viggers.
