Giller Prize 2016 shortlist announced

In Canada, the shortlist for the C$100,000 (A$98,820) Scotiabank Giller Prize 2016 for the best Canadian novel or short story collection published in English has been announced. The shortlisted works are: 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl (Mona Awad, Penguin); Yiddish for Pirates (Gary Barwin, Random House Canada), The Wonder (Emma Donoghue, Pan Macmillan); The Party Wall (Catherine Leroux, trans Lazer Lederhendler, Biblioasis), Do Not Say We Have Nothing (Madeleine Thien, Granta) and The Best Kind of People (Zoe Whittall, House of Anansi Press). Each finalist receives C$10,000 (A$9882), and the winner also receives a two-week residency at the Leighton Artists’ colony in Banff National Park. The winner will be announced on 7 November at a Toronto ceremony broadcast in Canada on CBC.
