Dank to leave ILF

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) has announced that Debra Dank will finish in her role as program manager at the end of the month.

Dank has been the foundation’s program manager for the past 18 months and previously managed the Indigenous Literacy Project when it was administered in partnership with the Fred Hollows Foundation. She is leaving the foundation to take up a teaching role in Darwin, where she will be teaching Indigenous children from Year 6 to Year 12.

ILF executive director Karen Williams told Bookseller+Publisher that the foundation is currently looking for a replacement.

The ILF said in a statement that Dank will continue her involvement with the ILF as a cultural ambassador. The foundation said that while it is ‘incredibly saddened to lose such an integral and valuable part of its team’, it is ‘delighted that Debra will continue to help and support the organisation in the future’.

The ILF said that Dank ‘was instrumental in leading the foundation in its engagement with remote communities, undertaking all aspects of its programming’ including book supply, the Book Buzz early literacy project, and community-based literacy programs. ‘Debra also led many field trips to some of the remotest parts of Australia, including across the Kimberleys and to the edge of the Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia,’ said the foundation.

Farewell drinks will be held for Dank on 16 July at the London Hotel in Balmain, Sydney. More information can be obtained by contacting the ILF.
