{"id":1022,"date":"2018-03-23T11:57:51","date_gmt":"2018-03-23T00:57:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/independentpublishing\/?p=1022"},"modified":"2018-03-23T11:57:51","modified_gmt":"2018-03-23T00:57:51","slug":"swf-2018-program-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/independentpublishing\/articles\/2018\/03\/23\/1022\/swf-2018-program-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"SWF 2018 program announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The program has been announced for this year\u2019s Sydney Writers\u2019 Festival (SWF), which runs from 30 April to 6 May.<\/p>\n<p>Sixty international guests and 400 Australian writers, academics and public figures will take part in events held across greater Sydney, with the festival\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/articles\/2018\/01\/10\/99842\/swf-announces-earlier-dates-for-2018-2019\/\">moving its main hub<\/a>from Walsh Bay to a temporary home at Carriageworks and the Seymour Centre while the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct is redeveloped.<\/p>\n<p>American authors Andr\u00e9 Aciman, Min Jin Lee and Alexis Okeowo will each deliver an opening address on the festival\u2019s theme of power. Pulitzer Prize-winning US novelist Jennifer Egan will deliver the festival\u2019s closing address about \u2018the power of media culture and its relationship with storytelling\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>International authors include US psychotherapist Amy Bloom; Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Junot D\u00edaz; American authors Tayari Jones and Eileen Miles; journalists and political commentators Masha Gessen and Katy Tur; and poets Cleo Wade and Yrsa Daley-Ward.<\/p>\n<p>Other international guests include podcast hosts Wesley Morris and\u00a0Jenna Wortham of\u00a0<em>Still Processing<\/em>, and Aminatou Sow of\u00a0<em>Call Your Girlfriend<\/em>; British broadcaster Robert E Kelly; founder of the book club and digital platform Well-Read Black Girl, Glory Edim; and debut authors Jenny Zhang, Gabriel Tallent and Carmen Maria Machado.<\/p>\n<p>More than 400 Australian authors and public figures will appear at the festival, including Helen Garner, Jane Harper, Ceridwen Dovey, Robert Drewe, Michael Robotham, Kim Scott, Christos Tsiolkas, Alexis Wright, Stan Grant, Jamila Rizvi, deputy leader of the Australian Labor Party Tanya Plibersek, broadcast journalist Leigh Sales and filmmaker Warwick Thornton.<\/p>\n<p>A two-day family program will be held at Sydney Town Hall on 5 and 6 May, featuring Jeff Kinney, Junot D\u00edaz, Jacqueline Harvey and Leigh Hobbs. The festival will also bring back its full-day program dedicated to young adult fiction, which will be held at Riverside Theatres in Parramatta on 5 May.<\/p>\n<p>International guests at this year\u2019s \u2018All Day YA\u2019 include Patrick Ness, Jesse Andrews and Cleo Wade, while local authors Shaun Tan, Alice Pung and Jay Kristoff will also feature.
