The shortlists were announced in September and winners will be announced in late November in Hobart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">John Burch won the inaugural\u00a0Victorian Premier\u2019s History Award, worth $5000, for his book\u00a0<em>Returning the Kulkyne<\/em>, announced as part of the <strong>Victorian Community History Awards<\/strong> in Melbourne on 16 October. Also at the awards,\u00a0<i>Girgarre<\/i> (Athol McDonald &amp; Jenny Wadelton, self-published) won the Collaborative Community Award and <i>Notable People of Collingwood <\/i>(Collingwood Historical Society, self-published) won the Local History Project Award<b>.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Finn Bell<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u2019s self-published novel\u00a0<i>Dead Lemons<\/i>\u00a0won the\u00a0<b>Ngaio Marsh Award,\u00a0<\/b>on 28 October, for Best First Novel, making Bell the first self-published author to win a Ngaio Marsh award<i>.\u00a0<\/i>His second self-published novel\u00a0<i>Pancake Money<\/i>\u00a0was also nominated in the Best Crime Novel category. Bell was described by judges as\u00a0\u2018a wonderful new voice in crime writing\u2019, as reported in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/articles\/2017\/10\/31\/97825\/ngaio-marsh-award-2017-winners-announced\/\"><span class=\"s3\">Books+Publishing<\/span><\/a><\/em>. The Ngaio Marsh Awards are presented annually for the best crime, mystery or thriller writing by New Zealand citizens and residents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The <strong>2017 AusRom Today Reader\u2019s Choice Awards<\/strong> finalists were announced on 30 October. Kate Sterritt\u2019s\u00a0self-published title <i>Love My Way<\/i> was nominated in both Cover of the Year and Book of the Year categories.
