{"id":168,"date":"2017-11-09T18:30:07","date_gmt":"2017-11-09T07:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/independentpublishing\/?p=168"},"modified":"2017-11-09T18:30:07","modified_gmt":"2017-11-09T07:30:07","slug":"us-self-publisher-isbns-up-8-in-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/independentpublishing\/articles\/2017\/11\/09\/168\/us-self-publisher-isbns-up-8-in-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"US self-publisher ISBNs up 8% in 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the US, ISBNs for self-published books have grown eight percent from 2015-2016, according to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bowker.com\/news\/2017\/Self-Publishing-ISBNs-Climbed-8-Between-2015-2016.html\">new report from ProQuest affiliate Bowker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In total, 786,935 ISBNs were assigned to self-published titles in 2016, up from 727,125 in 2015 and 599,721 in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>ISBNs for self-published print books were up 11% in 2015-2016 after a 34% growth in 2014-2015, while ISBNs for self-published ebooks declined by 3% in 2015-2016 after a 11% decline in 2014-2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Overall, we believe that these numbers point toward an ongoing maturation and stabilisation of the self-publishing industry,\u2019 said Beat Barblan, director of Identifier Services at Bowker.<\/p>\n<p>The report reveals that the self-publishing market is dominated by three service providers\u2014Amazon\u2019s CreateSpace, Smashwords and Lulu\u2014which accounted for over 84% of all self-published print and ebook ISBNs assigned last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the US, ISBNs for self-published books have grown eight percent from 2015-2016, according to a new report from ProQuest affiliate Bowker.
