{"id":3307,"date":"2023-04-24T02:33:20","date_gmt":"2023-04-24T02:33:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/independentpublishing\/?p=3307"},"modified":"2023-04-24T02:45:12","modified_gmt":"2023-04-24T02:45:12","slug":"latest-publishing-news-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/independentpublishing\/articles\/2023\/04\/24\/3307\/latest-publishing-news-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest publishing news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>2023 UK Selfies Award winners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the UK, trade publication <em>Book Brunch <\/em>announced the winners of the Selfies Book Awards, which recognise the best self-published adult fiction, children\u2019s and memoir and autobiography titles, at an event at the London Book Fair.<\/p>\n<p>Halima Khatun won the adult fiction category for <em>The Secret Diary of a Bengali Newlywed<\/em>, with judges praising the book as \u2018fun and readable, with an entertaining voice that made me laugh out loud at times\u2019, and noting Khatun made \u2018effective use of TikTok to market the book\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The best children\u2019s title was awarded to <em>When I Grow Up <\/em>(Rich Smith, illus by Stuart Hinchliff), a \u2018lovely, rhyming, engaging\u2019 book, according to judges, who noted the book\u2019s \u2018great sales\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Ziegel took home the memoir\/autobiography category for <em>Marching to a Different Beat: A family\u2019s journey with autism<\/em>, which displayed \u2018good, evocative writing \u2026 with a strong, commercial cover\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the awards the commended titles, visit the Selfies website <a href=\"https:\/\/theselfies.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Selfies-Book-Awards-2023-winners-press-release.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Booklife Prize for Nonfiction finalists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>BookLife\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Publishers Weekly\u00a0<\/em>have announced the four finalists for the\u00a0<em>Booklife\u00a0<\/em>Prize for Nonfiction, worth $5000.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>BookLife<\/em>\u00a0Prize is an annual writing competition in two contests (fiction and nonfiction) sponsored by\u00a0<em>BookLife<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Publishers Weekly<\/em>.
