{"id":3427,"date":"2023-08-21T06:01:29","date_gmt":"2023-08-21T06:01:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/independentpublishing\/?p=3427"},"modified":"2023-08-21T06:02:40","modified_gmt":"2023-08-21T06:02:40","slug":"latest-publishing-news-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/independentpublishing\/articles\/2023\/08\/21\/3427\/latest-publishing-news-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest publishing news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Self-published authors among RWA Ruby winners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several self-published titles were among the winners of the Romance Writers of Australia\u2019s (RWA) 2023 Romantic Book of the Year Awards, known as the Ruby Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Nyssa Kathryn&#8217;s <i>Jackson<\/i> won the romantic suspense category, Susanne Bellamy\u2019s <em>Under the Dark Moon<\/em> won for best historical romance, Alivia Fleur\u2019s <em>The Portrait Sitting <\/em>won best novella and Tanya Bird\u2019s <em>Kingdom of Chains <\/em>won best speculative fiction.<\/p>\n<p>Unpublished writer Emma Mugglestone and author Renae Black won the Emerald and Sapphire Awards respectively for their unpublished manuscripts.<\/p>\n<p>The winners were presented with their awards at the gala dinner of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/articles\/2023\/05\/03\/230454\/romance-writers-of-australia-conference-2023-program-announced\/\">RWA annual conference<\/a>, held on Saturday, 12 August in Sydney. The Ruby Awards are for novels and novellas published by Australian or New Zealand authors in the previous year. More information about RWA and its awards categories can be found on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/romanceaustralia.com\/\">RWA website<\/a>.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Other awards news<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There has been a string of local awards announcements over the past month, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/articles\/2023\/08\/18\/235853\/cbca-book-of-the-year-awards-2023-winners-announced\/\">winners of the CBCA Book of the Year awards<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/articles\/2023\/07\/31\/234866\/rewell-wins-2023-furphy-literary-award\/\">winner of the Furphy Literary Award<\/a> for a short story, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/articles\/2023\/08\/02\/234999\/queensland-literary-awards-2023-shortlists\/\">shortlists for the Queensland Literary Awards<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/articles\/2023\/07\/26\/234699\/davitt-awards-2023-shortlist-announced\/\">Davitt<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booksandpublishing.com.au\/articles\/2023\/08\/07\/235249\/ned-kelly-awards-2023-shortlists-announced\/\">Ned Kelly<\/a> awards for crime writing.<\/p>\n<p>Entries are open for the Woollahra\u00a0Digital Literary Award 2023, which recognises work published digitally in the first instance and is worth $7500 across several categories.
