About the books

From the world of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, come the first two titles in the highly anticipated The Rebel Girls Chapter Book series! Each book dives headfirst into the life of a woman who has impacted today’s society as we know it. These women are pioneers, champions, warriors, leaders and creators. Their stories are inspirational, honest, and triumphant. The chapter book series aims to create the next generation of girls who will excel in STEM, business, and other topics, with a contextual understanding of the women who allowed them to pursue their dreams today. Girls are given the tools they need to set forth and wildly explore their passions. Both books include full-page colour illustrations and subject-related activities. Recommended reading for children aged six-to-nine.

Ada Lovelace Cracks the Code

In Ada Lovelace Cracks the Code, readers have the opportunity to explore Ada Lovelace’s life from childhood to adulthood. Ada is truly a woman ahead of her time, able to conceptualise of and write the world’s first programming language, two hundred years before its significance. Research shows that people who become scientists, engineers, or mathematicians, first showed  subject interest in elementary school. Through Ada’s story, girls are exposed to these subjects at a young age, and encouraged to explore their passions without restraint.

Madam C.J. Walker Builds a Business

In Madam C.J. Walker Builds a Business, readers follow Sarah Breedlove’s journey from a young girl working on a farm, to a woman with a thriving business, posed to become America’s first self-made millionaire. Not only does Sarah open the market for black women’s hair products, but she does so while empowering the women around her to seek financial independence. While Sarah’s story does not gloss over the racial and gender inequalities she suffered, it does explore these subjects in a manner that is palatable for children. Through Sarah’s story, children are given a detailed account of the steps they might follow in their enterprising pursuits.
