Indigenous Literacy Day is fast approaching, and the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) has two incredibly engaging and inspiring virtual events to share!

Indigenous Literacy Day - YouTube Live Premiere at 12.30pm - Wednesday 2 September

Join ILF’s virtual YouTube Live Premiere celebration of Indigenous language and literacy. This inspiring event is a window into ILF’s work, the communities we engage with and the joy of books and reading. It explores the value of language and shares how ILF builds capacity within communities. Help us celebrate with ILF Ambassadors Anita Heiss, Andy Griffiths and Natalie Ahmat – to name a few – for a delightful book reading in a first language, and a heartfelt song by ILF Ambassador, Jessica Mauboy.

Viewers are encouraged to donate a gold coin on the day of viewing. Funds go towards the purchase of books and learning resources for children in remote communities.

To watch the premiere simply visit ILF’s YouTube channel on the day and sit back and enjoy. And don’t worry if you miss the Premiere event – it will stay on YouTube and you can watch it at a time that suits.

And for the younger audiences we have a special viewing.

Indigenous Literacy Day - An early childhood and primary school interactive, educational event – 2pm

Join ILF for a special 30-minute virtual celebration of Indigenous language and literacy to engage, inspire and delight preschool to primary students.

It’s a time to move, shake and dance with a book reading in Kriol by Cheryl Lardy and in English by Justine Clarke. Plus Australia’s favourite popstar, Jessica Mauboy will sing a catchy melody with children from Tiwi and Jilkminggan remote communities in languages. Hosted by acclaimed Indigenous author and performer Gregg Dreise.

Subscribe now to ILF’s YouTube channel at 2pm on the day and enjoy. Children are encouraged to donate a gold coin on the day of viewing. Funds go towards the purchase of books and learning resources for children in remote communities.

To stay up to date with our Indigenous Literacy Day celebrations, follow ILF on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and LinkedIn or visit our website. ILF also has resources available to promote the event to your school community.
