Dear Reader,
I thought kids could do with some magic, laughter and optimism. Me, too!
And so … I wrote Eliza Vanda’s Button Box.
Shy, quiet Milly Dynes loves her life in Tidgy Bay, where her father has holiday cabins for rent, and she goes to the little local school. But now things are changing — and changing much too fast for Milly. She knows she should be looking forward to going to the big Central High School next year. She knows she should be looking forward to moving into the beautiful bedroom her father’s making for her in the attic, to make room for the new baby who’ll be coming home soon.
But she’s not. She can’t admit it to anyone, but Milly feels as if the ground of her small, familiar world is quaking under her feet. She’s not sure she’ll be able to handle the challenges ahead.
Then the amazing Eliza Vanda, who calls herself a travelling dressmaker but clearly has other more unusual talents, appears out of nowhere with her sewing machine and her magic button box, looking for a quiet little pocket to finish a very special wedding dress. Drawn into running errands for her, Milly’s propelled into a series of adventures in the strange other worlds of Eliza Vanda’s clients — and learns she can handle anything!
Eliza Vanda’s Button Box is full of magic, surprises, excitement and mystery.
It was a joy to write. I hope you like it.
