Say hello to Sadie Le, the fresh face of Australian junior fiction! Sadie is a superstar baker with a big heart. She creates sweet and colourful recipes for special events in her life, but things often don’t go according to plan. Sadie’s resilience and determination to make things better for others spur her on to find a way to turn even the biggest disaster into something brilliant. In each story, the unstoppable Sadie shows that no matter what life throws at you, you can face it with generosity, heart and, of course, a fabulously sweet treat!

More than 10 years since the launch of the astronomically successful Billie B Brown series, key members of the publishing team behind that series are working passionately to make Sadie a publishing phenomenon. There’s something special about the little girl with the blue streak in her hair!

Sadie is a character for a new generation of kids. Where junior fiction characters before her were bold game-changers, Sadie is a child of the kindness revolution and cares deeply about making a difference to her community.

The Product

Everything about this book, from its typesetting to its narrative structure is geared to set up newly independent readers for a lifetime love of chapter books.

• Specially designed with three stories in one book to give kids a sense of satisfaction and achievement, which is hugely important in building reading confidence.

• Lightly illustrated to help guide readers from picture books and hybrid graphic fiction into novels.

• Balance of basic and complex sentence structures to suit a broad readership of emerging and consolidating readers. Each story has 2500 words and the entire book has 7500 words.

• Beautifully designed cover with Sadie branding to make the series both instantly recognisable and highly covetable.

• A Sprinkle of Sadie and A Spoonful of Sadie will both come out in 2022 to build momentum for the series, with further books planned in 2023.

About the author

Lana LOVES writing kids’ books just as much as Sadie LOVES sprinkles! Her writing is endlessly inspired by her young daughters who she lovingly calls her ‘little book butterflies’. Lana spends many hours treasure hunting in bookshops and attempting messy home bakes. She hopes to inspire a love of storytelling through her books and sensationally sweet characters.

Meet the illustrator

Joanie was born and raised in Virginia, where she still lives today with her husband and young daughter. She spends her days painting in her light-filled studio in the country, surrounded by nature. She has a love for all things vintage, especially children’s book illustration, advertising and fashion from long ago. She hopes her images will inspire kids to pick up a pencil and create their own worlds through stories and art.

Excited to meet Sadie? If you’re interested in doing something special to launch the series then get in touch with the Affirm Press team!
