Nero to publish Olympic swimmer Leisel Jones’ memoir in October 2015 x

Nero is delighted to announce the forthcoming memoir of Leisel Jones.

Leisel says: “This is an honest, warts-and-all story of my life to date: from winning Olympic Gold and being the youngest member of the Sydney 2000 Olympic team, through debilitating depression that led me to want to take my life and to my retirement as the only Australian swimmer to compete at four Olympic Games. This book won’t be just another sporting memoir, however. It will also be a guide for young athletes who want to be their best, and anyone who has struggled to believe in themselves. It’s about the real me: a happy girl who loves making a fool of herself and who also just happened to be a really good swimmer.”

Nero publisher Jeanne Ryckmans says: “I’ve long been fascinated – like many others – with Leisel. As a nine time Olympic medallist, it was her grace and maturity at the London Games that most impressed when she stood up to her bullies and caustic comments about her body shape. What woman wouldn’t have shared the outrage? ‘I swim in the pool, I don’t swim in the papers,’ she was quoted saying. But it was this criticism that Leisel said was ‘the best thing that happened to me: you put me under pressure and I’ll show you what I can do.’ This isn’t another ‘swim-moir’ but an inspirational story.”

Nero is proud to be publishing Leisel’s memoir in October 2015.
