Allen & Unwin are thrilled to announce that they have acquired UK/Commonwealth and ANZ rights to Australian author Dominic Smith’s novel At the Edge of a Wood, described by bestselling author of Billy Lynn’s Long Half-Time Walk, Ben Fountain, as ‘quite simply, one of the best novels I have ever read, and as close to perfect as any book I’m likely to encounter in my reading life.’ UK/Commonwealth rights were bought from Devon Mazzone at Farrar, Straus and Giroux, while ANZ rights were obtained from Gaby Naher at the Naher Agency. ‘Set in 17th century Holland, 1950s Manhattan and Sydney in 2000, At the Edge of a Wood is a breathtakingly accomplished story of art, forgery and deception which is both intelligent and utterly compelling,’ says Allen & Unwin’s trade publishing director Tom Gilliatt. Rights have also sold to Q Publishers in the Netherlands and Ullstein in Germany, with other deals imminent. Farrar, Straus and Giroux and Allen & Unwin will publish in 2016.

This is a great opportunity to purchase a well established family-owned business specialising in wholesaling, remainders, direct marketing and publishing. We also have a well established non-book business with major retailers. The business is well known in the industry, with an established customer and supplier base, and stock. The current owners are very happy to assist with the transition to the new owners.
