Publishers are invited to donate spare books to Vanuatu’s kindergarten and school libraries in the wake of Severe Tropical Cyclone Pam, which hit Vanuatu earlier this year in what has been described as one of the worst natural disasters in the region in the past century.
Many of the local schools were destroyed and have lost all of the books and materials from their libraries. Former Penguin employee Paula Hurley is helping coordinate donations to Vanuatu’s kindergartens and schools, and is asking for publishers to consider providing some spare books in any genre or format (picture books, chapter books, novels, fiction, nonfiction, reference etc.) to help rebuild the resources in the libraries and classrooms. Any donations received will be sent in a container from Sydney and the organisers will cover all customs and shipping arrangements.
If any publisher can spare a few boxes of children’s books, these will be received with immense gratitude by the lovely people of Vanuatu.
