NewSouth Books Congratulates Transit Lounge Stella Prize Shortlisting x

Catherine de Saint Phalle’s Poum and Alexandre: A Paris memoir (Transit Lounge) has been shortlisted for the 2016 Stella Prize, along with five other writers.

Poum and Alexandre tells the story of de Saint Phalle’s parents, two flawed eccentrics living in post-war Paris, and according to the Stella Prize judges, ‘deserves to be an instant classic of the biography genre’.

The Stella Prize is presented for the best work of fiction or nonfiction by an Australian woman. All shortlisted writers receive a writing retreat and $3000.

Hachette Australia farewells Murray Ball x

Footrot Flats author and cartoonist Murray Ball has passed away in New Zealand, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Hachette Australia Publishing Director Fiona Hazard said, ‘We were very saddened to hear of Murray Ball’s passing. His legendary Footrot Flats characters Wal and Dog have delighted Australian readers over the years and will continue to do so well into the future. Our thoughts are with Murray’s wife Pam and their family.’
