Engaged readers driving book sales, latest awards news x

A new survey by Australia Reads has found that engaged readers were driving the growth in book sales during the pandemic.

In other news, ADS has announced it is working with ‘multiple carriers’ and has added staff to work through supply chain congestion in the lead up to Christmas.

Winners of the Nib Literary Award, Dymocks Book of the Year, SPN Book of the Year and the Scarlet Stiletto Awards have all been announced in the past week, as was the longlist for the Walkley Book Award.

Overseas, UK Publishers Association data shows significant growth in audiobook and fiction sales this year, while the winners of the Royal Society Science Book Prize and the shortlists for the Costa Book Awards were announced. Meanwhile, a UK high court judge has ruled that passages in HarperCollins UK title Putin’s People are defamatory of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Applications for the 2022 black&write! Writing Fellowships are now open

Hachette Australia is delighted to continue their partnership with State Library of Queensland for their annual black&write! Writing and Editorial Fellowships for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander writers.

Having originally partnered with State Library on the Fellowships in 2016, this continuation will see two Writing Fellowships awarded annually in 2022 and 2023 to unpublished and published Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander writers. The recipients will each receive $10,000 in prize money, manuscript development with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders editors at black&write! and a Hachette Australia publisher, and a publication opportunity with Hachette Australia.
