In other awards news, IBBY Australia selected Rebecca Lim’s Tiger Daughter and Zeno Sworder’s My Strange Shrinking Parents for the 2024 IBBY Honour List, Niki Savva won the Australian Political Book of the Year for Bulldozed, and Ange Crawford won the inaugural Walker Books Manuscript Prize for her YA novel, How to Be Normal. Meanwhile, in the US, Matt Ottley received the Special Award—professional at the World Fantasy Awards for his book The Tree of Ecstasy and Unbearable Sadness (Dirt Lane Press).
In international news, the UK Society of Authors has called on the UK government to ‘urgently review’ proposed cuts to the Public Lending Right (PLR) rate, while in the US, Scholastic announced plans to stop offering its diverse stories collection, following accusations that its rollout aided censorship at book fairs.
