The Miles Franklin Literary Award shortlist was announced this week – get ready to debate around the tea trolley; the 2025 Rising Star shortlist has been announced, with the winner to be announced at the BookUp conference in August. The Australian School Library Association and the Australian Children’s Laureate Foundation announced the inaugural Laureate Week, beginning on 28 July 2025, and ‘aimed at supporting students and inspiring a love of stories across regional Australia’; and the Australian Society of Authors (ASA) has appointed Josh Bornstein to the ASA Board of Directors.
And industry, family, and friends paid tribute to Aotearoa New Zealand author Maurice Gee, who died last week.

What is new for jobs & classifieds?
- Set price per word count
- Fewer than 100 words, the set price is $165
- Between 100 and 299 words, the set price is $430
- Between 300 and 500 words, the set price is $660
- All prices are inclusive of a link (outside the word count)
- A logo can be included for an additional $55.
- Included in Weekly Book Newsletter and following Daily edition
- Consecutive weeks can be booked for 50% of the initial cost
- Remain visible on Books+Publishing‘s website for at least 2 months.

- Set price of $330 (incl GST)
- Posted to the website and remain on display
- Included in two news editions on the week that they are posted
- Posted on Books+Publishing’s Instagram on the Thursday.

To claim a deduction for books, periodicals and digital information:
- You must use them in connection with performing your current work duties.
- You must have a record of your expenses and use of the item.
