Arthur C Clarke Award 2016 shortlist announced

In the UK, the shortlist for the 2016 Arthur C Clarke Award for science-fiction has been announced. The six shortlisted titles are: Arcadia (Iain Pears, Faber), which can be read either as a print book or an app; The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (Becky Chambers, Hodder & Stoughton); The Book of Phoenix (Nnedi Okorafor, Hodder Paperbacks); Europe at Midnight (Dave Hutchinson, Phoenix), Way Down Dark (J P Smythe, Hodder & Stoughton); and Children of Time (Adrian Tchaikovsky, Pan). The winner of the prize, which is worth £2016 (A$3862), will be announced on 24 August. The Arthur C Clarke Award is presented annually for the best science-fiction novel published in the UK in the previous calendar year. The 2015 award was won by Emily St John Mandel for Station Eleven (Picador). For more information about the award, click here.
