New imprints at Paramount and Abrams as FSG closes MCD

In the US, the former parent company of Simon & Schuster, Paramount Global, has launched the new publishing imprint Paramount Global Publishing, to “create new opportunities to develop original IP”, reported the Bookseller.

The imprint will develop “complementary publishing content” inspired by its brands and franchises as well as generating new IP through the creation of original stories, and will first launch in the US and Canada, “with plans to expand to other markets in the future”, reported the Bookseller, adding that sales and distribution into the retail market would be handled by a yet-to-be-named partner. “In tandem, Paramount will continue its licensing strategy, partnering with publishers and distributors.”

Also in the US, publisher Abrams has announced the creation of imprint ABRAMS Well, which will publish 5 to 6 titles a year in the wellness category, with the first releases set for 2027. Titles forthcoming from the imprint include Green Goddess by Jess Damuck, The Second Spring: Nurturing Yourself Through Perimenopause by Heng Ou, and The Unpredictable Choice: 4 Keys to Unlock an Extraordinary Life by Karamo Brown, reported Publishers Weekly.

In other imprint news, PW reported that Farrar, Straus and Giroux (FSG) is closing its MCD imprint. Launched in 2016, MCD’s goal was “to create a space to publish work and experiment with publishing styles, forms, and genres that are at the edges of FSG’s traditions,” according to then FSG publisher and president Jonathan Galassi. Current president and publisher of FSG, Mitzi Angel, said that due to “the financial realities” of the industry, FSG has decided to “redirect our attention to FSG’s core programming under the FSG umbrella.”
