Greenwood wins Varuna-NEWC Fellowship

The New England Writers’ Centre (NEWC) in partnership with Varuna, the National Writers’ House, has announced Anne Greenwood as the winner of the 2022 Varuna-NEWC Fellowship.

Greenwood receives a week’s writing residency at Varuna in the Blue Mountains, to be taken up in 2023. The residency includes full board and accommodation, funds towards travel, and a one-on-one consultation with a Varuna expert.

In the fourth year of the fellowship, Greenwood’s winning submission included an extract from her manuscript ‘Torment’s Mirror’, which she will be working on during her residency. The book is a murder-mystery, and was praised by the judges as ‘captivating’ and ‘effortlessly readable’. The judges also congratulated shortlisted finalists Angela Earth, Catherine Emerson and Jodie Herden.

‘The Varuna-NEWC Fellowship means so much to writers in the region,’ said Greenwood of her win. ‘It’s a chance to be read and a chance to one day be published. Those sorts of chances are hard to come by. Thank you so much to Varuna and the New England Writers’ Centre.’

The winner of last year’s fellowship was James O’Hanlon for his nonfiction manuscript ‘I Love Spiders’.
