Larrikin House acquires ‘Ultra Violet’ sequel
Larrikin House has acquired rights to graphic novel Ultra Violet: Escape from Uranus, written by Cristy Burne and illustrated by Rebel Challenger.
According to the publisher, in this ‘STEM-meets-adventure graphic novel’, something is leaking from Uranus, and Violet Butt who ‘can science her way out of anything (even an alien invasion)’ gets to the bottom of things. This book is the sequel to Ultra Violet: Down to Business.
Burne (Beneath the Trees, Aussie STEM Stars: Fiona Wood) is an author, speaker and scientist. Her work has been recognised in the Western Australian Young Readers’ Book Award and the Children’s Book of the Year Awards, and has been shortlisted for Western Australia Premier’s Book Awards and the Environment Award for Children’s Literature.
‘Uranus is a fascinating place, and an amazing opportunity to combine absolutely ruthless pun-making with science, adventure, friendship and fun. And also beans. Working with Rebel Challenger has been amazing. Kids are going to eat this up,’ said Burne.
Acquiring publisher Dani Vee said: ‘Girls in space and STEM? Yes please! This book is one of the best looking graphic novels I’ve seen, and it’s packed with fun and fun facts!’
Larrikin House plans to release Ultra Violet: Escape from Uranus in October 2025.
