Ubud Writers & Readers Festival announces short story contest

The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, in partnership with the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), has launched an online short story competition for emerging writers. The Long Way Home Asia-Europe Short Story Contest is open to writers aged 18 and above from Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) member countries, which includes Australia. The theme for submissions is ‘travel’ and entries must be 700-800 words in length. Two prizes will be awarded for the best short story from an Australasian writer and the best short story from a European writer. Winners will each receive a cash prize of SGD 1000 (approximately A$866) as well as funds to cover travel and accommodation costs to attend the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival in October. Entries for the prize are now open and close on 3 August. Members of the public will be able to vote on a shortlist of ten writers between 19 August and 1 September, ahead of the winners announcement on 6 September.
