Aotearoa New Zealand publishers represented at Frankfurt
Six publishers are exhibiting at the Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) as part of the Aotearoa New Zealand collective stand.
The stand will be managed by Publishers Association of New Zealand Te Rau o Tākupu (PANZ) president Eboni Waitere, who is also executive director of HUIA Publishers.
Publisher representatives on the stand are:
- Sam Elworthy (Auckland University Press)
- Louise Russell and Paul Bateman (Bateman Books)
- Emily Broadmore (Folly Journal)
- Eboni Waitere (HUIA Publishers)
- Kevin Chapman (Upstart Press)
- Dame Wendy Pye (Sunshine Books).
The Virtual Book Stand is showcasing additional publishers and their books. Publisher representatives on the virtual stand are Tonia Shuttleworth (Koa Press), Trace Moroney (EQ Publications) and educational publisher Biozone. Their books will also be available on the physical stand.
The collective stand will be promoting the Creative New Zealand Translation Fund scheme, which supports the translation of Aotearoa New Zealand literature into foreign languages. The grants can contribute up to 50% of the translation cost to a maximum of NZ$5000 per title. This year, the fund has allowed local books to be translated into German, French, Turkish, Spanish and Catalan.
At FBF, the Aotearoa New Zealand collective stand will be located in Hall 6.0 at Stand D83, with the collective stand party held from 5pm on Friday 17 October. Nearby, the Australian collective stand will be at Hall 6.0, Stands B81 and B82, with a party on Thursday 16 October from 5:30pm.
