Story Factory opens Bidwill centre

Creative writing not-for-profit Story Factory has opened a new centre in the western Sydney suburb of Bidwill, New South Wales.

Having previously established centres in Redfern and Parramatta, the Story Factory announced its new centre in Bidwill Square will focus on reaching young people in the surrounding Mount Druitt area by offering access to creative writing programs.

Story Factory executive director and co-founder Catherine Keenan said, “Over Story Factory’s past 14 years of working with young people across Sydney and Western Sydney, we have witnessed time and again how creative writing improves literacy and empowers young people to express themselves.”

Story Factory board member and former student Bindi Mutiara said, “Story Factory’s programs planted the seeds of possibility for me, teaching me that creating together is a way of becoming whole. They opened an unbounded playground where I could learn to translate the world through my stories.

“Story Factory Bidwill is legacy work, a lighthouse for creative expression where young Mount Druitt storytellers will have access to deeply considered resources, support, and the freedom to conjure worlds of their own without restriction. By nurturing storytelling traditions at their roots, the program empowers kids like me to discover our own voices within them.”
