French Government to scan and sell out-of-print titles
Monday, 19 March 2012 Books+Publishing @booksandpublishing
The French Government has passed a law to digitise and sell half a million books that are currently out-of-print, reports Paid Content. The project, which is likened to the Google Books Settlement as it requires authors and publishers to ‘opt-out’, is designed to preserve and commercialise French books published before 2001 that are not currently available for sale in print or online. The French Government will hold a 40% stake in the royalty collection, with publishers controlling the remaining share.
