I’ll Tell You Mine (Pip Harry, UQP)

Yate Elliot has a secret—an even darker side to her already Goth persona—that has landed her in boarding school. Bound by the rules and restrictions of her new life, she can no longer sneak out and party with her punky friends to escape her problems. Kate is one of those teenagers for whom nothing comes easily, who feels like she’s never going to fit in and no-one is ever going to understand her. Wait, that’s every teenager! This is a lesson Kate soon learns—no-one’s got it all together, everyone has a secret, and there’s no harm in being a little bit different. Kate is an extremely relatable character, and even if readers don’t identify with her, they surely will with one of the other well-rounded cast of this extremely enjoyable book. This debut YA novel comes with a ringing endorsement from Melina Marchetta, and I couldn’t agree more: a boarding school setting plus great characters plus plenty of heart definitely equals a great read.
