Dymocks Nowra named ‘Retailer of the Year’ at national conference

The Dymocks store in Nowra, New South Wales, was named Dymocks/SBS Retailer of the Year at the 2012 Dymocks national conference earlier this month.

The Dymocks Camberwell store in Melbourne received the Excellence in Bookselling Award as well as the Chairman’s Award for Retail Excellence at the conference, which was held between 5-7 August in Port Douglas, Queensland. The Excellence in Local Area Marketing Award went to the Parramatta store in Sydney, while the George Street store picked up the award for Excellence in Visual Merchandising. Essie Mitchell from Dymocks Subiaco, Western Australia, received the Individual Excellence in Bookselling Award.

HarperCollins Australia was named Publisher of the Year, and Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson (Hachette) was voted Book of the Year. Lonely Planet was also recognised, winning the award for Specialist Supplier of the Year.

Dymocks loyalty and marketing manager Elain Richards told Bookseller+Publisher that more than 130 members of the Dymocks network attended the conference’s gala dinner. Among the special guests at this year’s conference were Judith Lucy, William McInnes, Cas & Jonesy, Chris Masters, Chloe Hooper, Ross Coulthard and Caroline Overington.
