US book industry magazine Publishers Weekly has named Fifty Shades of Grey author E L James as its ‘Publishing Person of the Year’ for 2012. Publishers Weekly said it selected James ‘because the success of [her] series continues to reverberate throughout the industry in a number of ways—among other things, the money it’s brought in helped books print sales in bookstores and turned erotic fiction in a hot category’. According to Publishers Weekly, the ‘Fifty Shades’ trilogy has sold more than 35 million copies in print and digital in the US, resulting in more than $200 million in revenue for Random House.
