United Agents acquires A P Watt literary agency

In the UK, United Agents literary agency has acquired A P Watt, one of the oldest agencies in the world, reports the Bookseller. The confirmation of the acquisition follows reports from the Bookseller in September that the two agencies were in ‘exclusive negotiations’. As a result of the acquisition, 12 of A P Watt’s 16 agents, associates and assistants will move to the United Agents offices in London, with A P Watt chairman Caradoc King and joint managing director Derek Johns joining United Agents as partners. The combined agency will have 31 agents, associates and assistants, although A P Watt will retain its name and identity within the larger agency. ‘Publishing is undergoing profound changes and it is vital for authors to have the strongest possible representation in all aspects of their careers,’ said King.
