Eddington appointed Literature Board director

The Australia Council for the Arts has announced that Jill Eddington has been appointed as director of the Literature Board.

The Australia Council said in a statement that Eddington will start in the role in January. She replaces Susan Hayes, who is retiring. Hayes’ last day at the Australia Council will be 19 December.

Eddington was director and CEO of the Byron Bay Writers Festival and Northern Rivers Writers’ Centre from 1999-2006. She recently curated the Australian Society of Authors 50th anniversary program and has previously worked with the State Library of Queensland and Arts Northern Rivers.

Eddington said in the same statement that she is looking forward to joining the Australia Council. ‘The writing and publishing industry is in a state of transformation at the moment,’ said Eddington. ‘I hope to work with the board to assist the sector to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities for writers and the vibrant literature sector in Australia.’
