Australian-American author Geraldine Brooks is one of six finalists in the running for the Indie Champion Award (formerly Most Engaging Author Award) in the 2013 US Indies Choice Book Awards. Also nominated for the award are Tom Angleberger, Jonathan Evison, John Green, Jon Scieszka and Terry Tempest Williams. The award is presented to ‘the author or illustrator who booksellers feel has the best sense of the importance of independent bookstores to their communities at large and the strongest personal commitment to foster and support the mission and passion of independent booksellers’. The finalists have also been announced in a number of other categories, including Book of the Year for Adult Fiction, Adult Nonfiction, Adult Debut and Young Adult, and the EB White Read-aloud Award for Middle Reader and Picture Book. Bookstore members of the American Booksellers Association can now vote for the awards, which will be announced on 18 April. You can see the full list of finalists here.
