2013 NZ Post Children’s Book Awards finalists announced
The finalists for the 2013 New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards have been announced. The shortlisted titles in each category are:
Picture books

The winning title in each category will be announced at an awards ceremony in Christchurch on 24 June.
Each category award carries a cash prize of NZ$7500 (approximately A$6025), with the picture book prize split between the winning author and illustrator. The NZ$7500 NZ Post Children’s Book of the Year prize will also be awarded at the presentation ceremony to one of the category winners.
The finalists were chosen from hundreds of entries by a panel of three judges: children’s literature expert and author Eirlys Hunter, presenter of Radio New Zealand’s Arts on Sunday program Lynn Freeman and author Bernard Beckett.
The finalists will participate in children’s book events around the country as part of a nationwide celebration of the NZ Post Children’s Book Awards. The festivities will take place from 17-24 June.
The NZ Post Children’s Book Awards are presented annually in recognition of authors and illustrators of high-quality New Zealand books for children and teenagers. The awards are sponsored by New Zealand Post and Creative New Zealand, and are administered by Booksellers New Zealand. More information about the awards can be found on the Booksellers NZ website.
