UK book industry to launch trade-wide advertising campaign

In the UK, a trade-wide advertising campaign to promote books and bookshops will be launched to the public in September, reports the Bookseller. The campaign will feature the slogan ‘Books Are My Bag’, which will be printed on cloth bags. A range of celebrities, including all authors appearing at this month’s London Book Fair, will be photographed with the bags, and the photographs will be made available to booksellers to use in their local promotions. The bags will also be sold in bookshops, with booksellers initially to receive them free of charge and have the option to add their name and logo. The advertising campaign, created by advertising firm M & C Saatchi, is backed by the Booksellers Association and the Publishers Association. It is also supported by booksellers including Waterstones, W H Smith, Eason and Foyles, and by publishers including Hachette, Penguin, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster and Random House. The campaign was launched to the trade at the London Book Fair on 16 April, and will be launched to consumers on 14 September, running through to Christmas.
