2013 BILBY Awards shortlist announced

The shortlist for this year’s Books I Love Best Yearly (BILBY) Awards, the children’s choice book awards for Queensland, has been announced.

The shortlisted titles in each of the categories are:

Books for early readers

  • Bamboozled (David Legge, Scholastic)
  • Green Eggs and Ham (Dr Seuss, HarperCollins)
  • Old Pig (Margaret Wild, illus by Ron Brooks, A&U)
  • The Pout-Pout Fish (Deborah Diesen, illus by Dan Hanna, Scholastic)
  • Rudie Nudie (Emma Quay, ABC Books)
  • Where is the Green Sheep? (Mem Fox, illus by Judy Horacek, Viking)

 

Books for younger readers

  • The 13-Storey Treehouse (Andy Griffiths, illus by Terry Denton, Pan)
  • The 26-Storey Treehouse (Andy Griffiths, illus by Terry Denton, Pan)
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever (Jeff Kinney, Puffin)
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (Jeff Kinney, Puffin)
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel (Jeff Kinney, Puffin)

 

Books for older readers

  • Catching Fire (Suzanne Collins, Scholastic)
  • Divergent (Veronica Roth, HarperCollins)
  • The Golden Door (Emily Rodda, Omnibus)
  • The Hobbit (J R R Tolkein, HarperCollins).

 

Children across Queensland now have the opportunity to vote for their favourite books in each category. The winners of this year’s awards will be announced on 17 June.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the shortlist for this year’s Reading & Enjoying Australian Literature (REAL) Awards, which acts as a shortlist for children’s choice book awards in the Australian Capital Territory (COOL Awards), New South Wales (KOALAs), the Nothern Territory (KROC Awards) and Victoria (YABBAs), has also been announced.
