Funder wins ‘Women of Style’ award

Australian author Anna Funder has won the Arts and Culture category of the 2013 Women of Style awards, presented by InStyle Magazine. Funder, whose novel All That I Am (Penguin) won a number of the top literary prizes last year, including the Miles Franklin Literary Award, beat Opera Australia artistic director Lindy Hume and playwright and actress Kate Mulvany to win the award, which was announced in Sydney on 14 May. InStyle editor Kirsten Galliott said in a statement that Funder is ‘a true woman of style’. ‘Anna is an incredibly powerful and well-respected Australian author … [and her] drive, passion and commitment is testament to her success’. This is the fifth year that InStyle has presented the Women of Style Awards. Last year, the Arts and Culture award was shared by author Nikki Gemmell and playwright Lally Katz.
