Spielberg set to produce ‘The Grapes of Wrath’
US producer Steven Spielberg is set to produce a film adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1939 novel The Grapes of Wrath, reports the Guardian. Spielberg’s California-based production company DreamWorks Studios is reportedly in the process of acquiring the rights to the novel, with the intention of creating a feature film adaptation. If DreamWorks acquires the rights, Spielberg is likely to produce the film but not direct it, reports say. According to the Guardian, Robert Redford’s not-for-profit film company Sundance Institute is also bidding for the rights, with the intention of producing a miniseries adaptation. Next year marks the 75-year anniversary of Steinbeck’s Pulitzer prize-winning novel, which was previously adapted for the screen in 1940 by director John Ford.
