Kibble, Dobbie 2013 winners announced

The winners of this year’s Kibble and Dobbie Literary Awards have been announced.

The winner of the $30,000 Nita B Kibble Literary Award, which recognises the work of an established Australian female writer, is The Beloved by Annah Faulkner (Picador). The Beloved was selected from a shortlist of three titles, which also included Like a House on Fire by Cate Kennedy (Scribe) and Questions of Travel by Michelle de Kretser (A&U).

The $5000 Dobbie Award, which recognises the work of a first-published Australian female writer, was presented to Toyo: A Memoir by Lily Chan (Black Inc.). Chan’s book was also selected from a shortlist of three titles, which included Floundering by Romy Ash (Text) and The Burial by Courtney Collins (A&U).

Last year’s Kibble Award was presented to Five Bells by Gail Jones (Vintage). The 2012 Dobbie Award was presented to Past the Shallows by Favel Parrett (Hachette).
