Adidem Group acquires full ownership of Affirm Press

Melbourne-based publisher Affirm Press has been wholly acquired by previous part-owner, the Adidem Group.

Affirm Press publisher Martin Hughes told Books+Publishing that he sold his share in the business to the Adidem Group, which owns companies such as The Body Shop, to secure ‘extra funding and support so we can size up and really pursue our goals’. Affirm Press was previously jointly owned by Hughes and Adidem Group owner and executive chairman Graeme Wise.

Hughes said the support and funding from the Adidem Group will allow Affirm Press to expand its publishing list. ‘We intend growing the list across the board, focusing particularly on Australian titles and great Australian stories from established as well as emerging authors and for a broad audience,’ said Hughes. ‘We’re aiming for this to be apparent with our list from mid-2014.’

Hughes said Affirm Press will also be expanding its team, with the publisher ‘looking to make two new appointments in the near future’. As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Keiran Rogers recently joined Affirm Press in the newly created role of sales and marketing manager, and Elke Power has been appointed as publishing coordinator. Rebecca Starford, previously associate publisher at Affirm Press, left the company to join Text Publishing as an editor of fiction and nonfiction earlier this month.
