Australian authors nominated for ‘Not the Booker’ Prize
A number of Australian authors have been nominated for this year’s ‘Not the Booker’ Prize. The prize, which is run by the Guardian in the UK, has the same criteria as the Man Booker Prize but is voted on by the public. The winner receives a Guardian coffee mug.
Among the 72 longlisted titles are Hannah Kent’s Burial Rites (Picador), Thomas Keneally’s The Daughters of Mars (Vintage), Helen FitzGerald’s The Cry (Faber) and Evie Wyld’s All the Birds, Singing (Vintage).
The list also includes A Tale for the Time Being (Ruth Ozeki, Text) and The Testament of Mary (Colm Tóibín, Picador), which were longlisted for this year’s Man Booker Prize.
Members of the public have until 11 August to vote for their favourite titles by submitting a review of two books from the longlist. A shortlist of six books will then be assembled from the readers’ votes. To see the full list of titles, click here.
