The winners in each category are:

  • Queen of the Road (Tricia Stringer, Mira)

The Ruby awards, which are administered by the Romance Writers of Australia (RWA) and judged by readers, are open to published novels of 40,000 words or more. The winners were announced at a ceremony at the RWA’s annual conference, which was held in Fremantle from 16 to 18 August.

Also announced at the conference was the winner of the RWA’s inaugural award for published novellas, the Ella award, which is open to novellas of between 10,000 and 40,000 words. The winner of the Ella award was Diplomat’s Daughter (Carolyn Wren, Secret Cravings).

RWA president Nikki Logan said that this year’s Ruby competition, which attracted 188 entries, ‘saw a definite increase in the amount of epub-only and epub-first entries this year, which is an interesting reflection on the changing trend in romance publishing’.

For more information about the awards, see the RWA website here.
