Davitt Awards 2013 winners announced

The winners of the 2013 Davitt Awards, presented by Sisters in Crime for crime and mystery books written by Australian women, have been announced.

The winning titles in each of the categories are:

Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Kerry Greenwood

 

Adult Fiction

  • Mad Men, Bad Girls and the Guerilla Knitters Institute (Maggie Groff, Pan)

 

True Crime

  • The Waterlow Killings (Pamela Burton, Victory)

 

Children’s and Young Adult Fiction

  • The Tunnels of Tarcoola (Jennifer Walsh, A&U)

 

Best Debut

  • Mad Men, Bad Girls and the Guerilla Knitters Institute (Maggie Groff, Pan)

 

Reader’s Choice Award

  • Tamam Shud: The Somerton Man (Kerry Greenwood, NewSouth).

 

The awards were presented by New Zealand author Vanda Symon at a gala dinner in Melbourne. Symon is the author of the ‘Sam Shephard’ crime novels Overkill, The Ringmaster, Containment, Bound and The Faceless (all Penguin).

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, this is the first year that a Lifetime Achievement Award has been presented. In her acceptance speech, Greenwood said she was ‘overwhelmed and delighted’ to receive the award from Sisters in Crime, which she called ‘the world’s most educated audience when it comes to female mysteries’.
