Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards 2013 winners announced

The winners of the 2013 Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) Book of the Year Awards have been announced.

The winning titles in each of the categories are:

Young Children

  • Seadog (Claire Saxby, illus by Tom Jellett, Random House)

 

Lower Primary

  • Sophie Scott Goes South (Alison Lester, Viking)

 

Upper Primary

  • After (Morris Gleitzman, Viking)

 

Indigenous Children

  • Two Mates (Melanie Prewett, illus by Maggie Prewett, Magabala).

 

This year’s awards were presented at a ceremony at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne on 15 October. Author Ursula Dubosarsky was inducted into the SPA Hall of Fame at the ceremony, in recognition of her ‘sustained and high quality contribution to Australian children’s literature’. Dubosarsky, who was also nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award this month, joins Graeme Base, who received a lifetime achievement award in 2012.

The SPA Book of the Year Awards were established in 2003. The awards are presented annually for excellence in the development of children’s speech, language and literacy skills. To see a list of the books that won awards last year, click here.
