Bloomsbury to publish illustrated Harry Potter books

Bloomsbury has announced that it will publish illustrated editions of J K Rowling’s Harry Potter series with artwork from UK illustrator Jim Kay.

The first title in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will be published in September 2015 in the UK, Australia and other territories. The books will be published in hardback with full-colour illustrations.

‘It is, without doubt, the commission of a lifetime,’ said Kay, who is best known for his illustrations in Patrick Ness’ A Monster Calls (Walker Books), which won him the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2012. ‘To design the characters, the clothing, the architecture and landscapes to possibly the most expansive fantasy world in children’s literature, well let’s just say I’m extremely excited about it.’
