Wattpad and Goodreads release 2013 membership statistics

In the US, online reading communities Wattpad and Goodreads have released statistics that show their memberships increased significantly throughout 2013. According to Publishers Weekly, Wattpad’s membership grew to over 18 million users during 2013. Wattpad provides a place for members to upload their stories and receive feedback from a community of readers, who can read the content for free. Figures show that over 20 million stories were uploaded to the platform in 2013; over 64,000 stories were uploaded or expanded each day; 53% of users write stories on their phones; 85% of the time spent on the site is via mobile phone or tablet; and users spent an average of 30 minutes per session on the site. Goodreads showed in an infographic that its platform doubled in size in 2013 to 25 million registered users. Figures show that during 2013, four books were found on Goodreads every second; 294 million books were added to the site; 20 million webpages were read; 29 million book reviews were written by members; and 28 million trivia questions were answered.
